Guide : Type of Affiliate Marketing Campaigns

Type of Affiliate Marketing Programs:

  1. PAY PER SALE or Cost per sale or Cost per Transaction (commission based):  You get paid a commission for each sale you generate. If you refer a visitor to the merchant’s site and the visitor makes a purchase, you get a percentage of the sale as a commission.
  1. Cost Per Click : You get paid for every visitor you send to the online merchant through a banner or text link, regardless of whether or not a sale is made.
  2. Cost per Visit (CPV )  – Most of the advertisers use Google analytics for tracking and they consider a Unique visit by a user as a session and pay affiliates on basis of this visits, which is known as cost per visit campaign. Its almost similar to CPC but validated numbers are given to affiliates on basis of GA visits.
  3. Cost per Lead : You get paid a one-time fee for generating a lead for the merchant. Similar to a bounty program, you usually earn low commission per each referred visitor who fills out a questionnaire or an application.
  4. Cost per Install – These are mobile app campaigns and they are very similar to CPL campaigns and generally the conversion point is when a user installs an app.
  5. CPM – Cost per impression campaigns is where affiliate get a flat rate every time advertisement is displayed 1000 times on his or her web page. – Cost per mille requires only that the publisher make the advertising available on his website and display it to his visitors in order to receive a commission. These campaigns are generally done by merchants for Brand building and Brand awareness.
  6. Cost per Like/Fan/follow – Once again Fan and Like campaigns are very similar to CPL campaigns and used to grow and engage your social media following especially on Facebook , twitter and Instagram.
  7.  Hybrid Campaigns – This is when you combine 2 or more campaign types together. For example CPC with performance metrics – in these type of campaigns merchant ask publisher for a minimum CR guarantee, here they will have pay you on CPC but you need to commit them a minimum sales, for instance 1% CR condition means that in every 100 clicks you need to get one sale.
  8. Two tier Programs : You get commission on the direct sales you originate, plus you get commission on sales generated by affiliates which you recruit.

 2.       Deal Websites (or Blogs )  and  Deal Aggregators Affiliate websites ( Again Content Based Website ) -> Deal websites aggregate deals from local deal sites and from a lot of popular and non-popular e-commerce sites.  People today are constantly looking for cheapest deals and offers online and that’s why starting a deal website today is a lucrative business.  A good knowledge of online merchants and regular research on top offers is a must before you start a Deal website. The deal always is not needed to be a discount deal but as long as it’s a good deal, they fit the bill.  Tip -:  letting the crowd submit the deals and have a forum kind of score board for contributors and deal popularity could be a great strategy for your Deal website.

In this model customer instead of visiting the retailer website directly visit retailer by following a link from a cashback website. In return the cash back website generates a monetary reward for the customer. The cashback website receives a predetermined commission from the retailer and share some part from it to the customer who made the purchase. Payment to customers is generally made to the user in the form of bank transfers, gift vouchers, bank checks, via pay pal etc. Most of the cashback websites place a threshold on a customer’s account such that a user may need to earn a minimum amount of transactions in order to be able to receive a reward.

Guide : Choosing an Affiliate Network

In order to start with affiliate marketing your foremost need is to join a reputable affiliate network that could provide you good programs in accordance to your inventory and off course good account management and support. Today you can find similar programs and almost similar payouts with all popular affiliate networks in India however there are numerous other factors that you must know before you choose your network.

6 things you should look for before you Join  a Affiliate Network

Affiliate networks are similar to your business partner because it is their overall duty to help you make money. Affiliate network and affiliate relation should always be a win-win relation, If they don’t make you any money, then  don’t make any money for themselves. It is always recommended to do some research before you start working with a network because in marketplace you will find all type of companies from companies that don’t pay to publishers to companies that pay weekly, companies that give you 24/7 support to companies that never bother to answer your queries.

Below mentioned are some important factors  that you should consider before you join a affiliate network.

Reputation – In my opinion Reputation is far more important as compared to payouts or other factors. Its always safe to associate with a known and trusted brand since you do not want to lose money earned by your hard work. It’s always good to Keep away from shady networks that offer you high payouts but they  just start up to die out. Consider doing your own research first, and see what others are saying about the network you decide to join.

Tracking Technology – Do your network provides a robust tracking platform?  Is tracking real-time ? Are all of your sales getting tracked? Make sure answers to all these questions is Yes.

Networks that keep you updated  –  A good network always approach you as friend and keep you updated about what’s hot and flop.  The best way all quality networks do it is through email communication instead of annoying calls to increase sales.
Diversity – business changes daily, campaign come and go.  It is always a safe bet to work closely with networks with multiple offers in multiple niches and backups. If one campaign goes down, you better have another one ready to back it up.

Relations – Since a affiliate network is your business partner its vital that your network value your relation. Every affiliate network is primary interested in building relationships with super affiliates.  However one of the most important things that every good affiliate network do is to treat its every affiliate like they’re a ‘super’ or ‘high volume’ affiliate.  Relation is a two sided game, its also your duty to maintain a good relationship with your network ,if you have a strong relationship with an affiliate network or affiliate managers, then you can get away with a lot of stuff.

Transparency – Do your network provides you 100% transparency, do it provides you with exclusive reporting feature that increases transparency and provides statistics at a quick glance.

Payouts –  Payouts are undoubtedly one of the most important factor on which you choose amongst networks.  This is especially true if you are investing money in  buying traffic. Moreover you need to make sure that your expenses are covered by the payout of the offers and your association with network is profitable for your business.
